Associate professorship in French The Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies, University of Copenhagen, Denmark invites applications for an associate professorship in French to be filled by 1 August 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. Preference will be given to applicants with research experience in one or more of the following areas of French and/or Francophone studies: literature, literary history, literary theory, cultural and intellectual history, history and society.The Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies teaches and conducts research into language, literature and society in Western Europe, Australia, the USA, Canada, Latin America and parts of Africa. The Department is a dynamic environment with a high level of personal interaction and a wide range of functions. It currently employs approx. 150 members of staff.Job content The associate professor is expected to be able to take part in all the activities of the Department, including examinations and administration, and also to manage research projects, provide pedagogical supervision, support assistant professors and participate in academic assessment panels.Qualification requirementsApplicants must be able to document research and teaching qualifications of a high international calibre in one or more subjects relevant to the associate professorship. They are expected to have made a significant contribution to the field in major international publications and to have extensive experience of teaching and supervising students at both BA and MA levels.Applicants must also have an active, international research profile. Experience of organising research, establishing networks and working in an interdisciplinary environment will also be an advantage. The successful applicant will be expected to assume responsibility for major external funding applications.Applicants must also be able to document fluency in written and spoken French. Knowledge of the Department´s other languages, not just English but also Spanish, Italian, German and Portuguese will be an advantage, as the successful applicant must be willing to take part in interdisciplinary collaboration in the department and in relevant inter-departmental projects and initiatives.French studies at the University of Copenhagen is in the middle of a reconstruction and expansion phase, and it is important that applicants understand the discipline?s subject areas and are able to engage constructively in this pedagogic and academic policy work. Applicants are requested, therefore, to account for their thoughts and plans for French studies, in terms of teaching, research, administration and applications for external funding.When appointing a candidate to the post as associate professor, we stress that the applicant must have research and teaching qualifications corresponding to what can be achieved as part of a successful employment as an assistant professor.The duties of the position are evenly distributed on tasks related to teaching and tasks related to research (including relevant administration and knowledge-sharing). Hence the assessment of applicants´ qualifications will assign equal weight to documented competences in the field of teaching, pedagogy and didactics as in the field of research, research collaboration and research organization. The Faculty may ask for a signed statement from the co-authors stipulating the extent and nature of each individual´s contribution.Only material in English, German, French, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish will be assessed.All material will be shredded at the end of the appointment procedure.Appointment procedureAfter the application deadline, the Dean will set up an expert assessment committee to evaluate applicants in relation to the advertised position.
