CALL FOR APPLICATIONSSecond Vice-President of the Graduate Student Caucus of the Modern LanguagesThe Graduate Student Caucus is an affiliate organization of the Modern Language Association. The major function of the caucus is to advocate on behalf of graduate students in modern languages at the annual meeting of the MLA. We seek to raise awareness about current issues that graduate students face and hope to contribute to any of the decisions that are made on our behalf. On a more practical level, we want to help students stay informed about the various facets of academia.As an affiliate group, we organize two panels each year at the MLA convention and hope to encourage graduate student involvement on all levels of participation at the annual meeting. This is a great opportunity for students to present their work at a major event, and/or – as an executive member of the caucus – to organize and chair a session at the convention. The MLA is the most important resource for graduate students, as it serves as professional representative on many academic and non-academic fronts.We are conducting a search for a dynamic individual to join the executive board starting January 2014. The executive board consists of one president and two vice-presidents. The selected candidate would ideally be able to commit to a three-year term with the caucus.Responsibilities for the VP2 include:keeping the caucus website updated, running our Facebook Page, assisting the first vice-president and the president with promotion of the caucus, its events, and other caucus initiatives, increasing and maintaining caucus membership, serving in the role of contributing and managing editor of The Graduate Caucus Chronicle The successful candidate should be:- enrolled at a graduate program in the modern languages for the entirety of the tenure with the caucus and available for the next three years, as the VP2 assumes the role of VP1 and finally the role of the president (Exceptions can be made)- tech-savvy, dynamic, knowledgeable about graduate studies and current discussions surrounding graduate education in the modern languages in specific and the humanities in general, and well-articulate.Please, send your cover letter along with your CV to Loic Bourdeau.The selected candidate will be officially appointed as second vice-president early 2014.Deadline to submit application is Dec. 1, 2013 (Phone interviews to be conducted after Dec. 12).
