Science/Fictions The Department of French and Italian of the University of Kansas invites researchers at all levels to submit proposals for its spring conference to be held on April 18 th in conjunction with Chimères , a peer-reviewed Journal of French & Francophone Literatures and Cultures. Chimères is listed by the MLA Bibliography and is now in its forty-eighth year. Selected papers will be considered for publication in the journal, and a monetary prize, in honor of Professor Samira Sayeh, will be awarded to the best paper presented at the conference. Our open-ended and multidisciplinary conference will explore the means by which science and fiction intersect. How does fiction inform science and how does science inform fiction? Are the notions necessarily codependent? In what form do these co-dependencies manifest themselves? Possible topics could include, but are not limited to: ·Science fiction and fantasy ·Fictional constructions ·Colonial fictions ·History of science ·Scientific discourse ·Digital humanities ·Anticipated futures ·Dystopias/utopias/virtual and imagined realities Papers are invited from any area of French and Francophone studies and may be in English or French. Prospective presenters may submit abstracts of approximately 300 words byFebruary 20, 2015 .
