The College of Arts, Humanities, and Law is pleased to offer a Graduate Teaching Assistantship for January 2013 entry to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme. This post will pay full-time University UK/EU tuition fees for four years and include an annual maintenance grant.
The Graduate Teaching Assistantship is available in any School/Department in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Law: American Studies, Archaeology and Ancient History, English, Historical Studies, History of Art and Film, Modern Languages (including Translation Studies), and Museum Studies.
Research Areas and Supervision in French
We welcome applications from those looking to work in any area of French and Francophone Studies that can be supervised within the department:

About Graduate Teaching Assistantships
Graduate Teaching Assistantships allow you to fund your PhD study through part-time teaching work with the University.
The Graduate Teaching Assistant is responsible to the Head of Department and is expected to undertake teaching-related duties as required within the Department, not normally exceeding the equivalent of six/seven contact hours per week during term time. The Graduate Teaching Assistant is also expected to contribute to Department research initiatives.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the University's standard academic and English language entry requirements. It is expected that applicants will also hold - or expect to hold by October 2012 - a Masters degree in a relevant subject. Applicants should have native speaker competence in French and fluency in written and spoken English as well as good knowledge of the societies and cultures of the French-speaking world. Applicants are also required to be able to demonstrate outstanding promise of research achievement and have research interests in one or more of the research themes covered by Department staff.
This post is open to suitable UK/EU and International (i.e., outside the EU) applicants. Please note though that the award covers tuition fees at the UK/EU rate only. International applicants (and those not eligible to pay UK/EU tuition fees) must demonstrate at the time of their application that they can fund the difference in tuition fee rates.
This post is for full-time study only and applicants must be able to commence their studies in October 2012.
