The Department of French and Italian offers a comprehensive graduate program in French and Francophone studies. We prepare students for research and teaching in an increasingly globalized and interdisciplinary profession. Our faculty specialize in cultural and political theory, medieval and early modern studies, Francophone studies, gender and queer studies, material culture, and film. We feature a graduate track in Literature and Politics and graduate certificates in Cultural Studies,Film Studies, Global Studies , Medieval and Renaissance Studies, and the S tudy of Women, Gender, and Sexuality . Our students benefit from the thriving intellectual community fostered by the Humanities Center and World History Center and the vibrant urban and cultural experiences of Pittsburgh.
PhD in Film Studies with a Concentration in French at the University of Pittsburgh
The Department of French and Italian and the Film Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh offer an innovative PhD in Film Studies with a Concentration in French. This degree combines rigorous training in French language, literature, and culture with a firm grounding in the history, aesthetics, and theory of film.Students will benefit from the opportunity to work closely with both faculty in French and distinguished members of the Film Studies Program.
