Assistant Professor Modern and Contemporary French Literature and CultureTenure TrackThe School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SLLC) at the University of Maryland, College Park, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in Modern and Contemporary French Literature and Culture beginning in Fall 2014. We seek a scholar with expertise in one or more literatures and cultures of the French-speaking world after 1800. Areas of specialization could include immigration, transnational cultural relations, littérature-monde . The successful candidate will bring a global perspective to bear on the study of literature in French and will be able to contribute to existing initiatives such as the Center for Literary and Comparative Studies and the Consortium for Race, Gender and Ethnicity. While contributing to SLLC-wide research and teaching, the successful candidate will be an integral member of the Department of French and Italian. S/he will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including language courses. Evidence of excellence in teaching and scholarly promise required. Publications are preferred. Requirements include: native or near-native fluency in French and English, and a Ph.D. in hand by May 31, 2014.This position is contingent on the continued availability of funds.For full consideration, applicants should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a short description of current research plans, a representative writing sample, unofficial transcripts, a teaching portfolio, and the names and contact information for three reference providers who may be contacted to provide a confidential letter of recommendation.
