2-3 Year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Early Modern Travel Writing and Digital Humanities, Center for Early Modern Exchanges, University College London (UCL)Project ‘Moving: Pathways, Transport and Place’The Centre for Early Modern Exchanges is seeking to identify a researcher to form part of a grant application for a two/three year postdoctoral fellowship from UCL’s Centre for Humanities Interdisciplinary Research Projects. If the application is successful (funding is not guaranteed at this stage), the appointment will start in Fall 2014 for a duration of 2 to 3 years. We welcome applications from advanced doctoral and postdoctoral students with interests in early modern travel writing, historical geography or environmental criticism with expertise or an interest in Digital Humanities, in particular the visualisation of data and the interactive mapping of historical information. The central outcome of the project will be an interactive and dynamic mapping tool representing infographically aspects of the temporal and spatial dynamics of early modern moving. We are interested in the relationship between actual and fictional/textual journeys and the ways in which this distorting lens can be represented visually, and are open to a variety of approaches to this theme, from legal regimens, literary/fictional geographies, the sociology of space, economics of moving, boundaries and borders, river or oceanic transport, and trade. For more information, please contact Dr Alexander Samson (a.samson@ucl.ac.uk) or Dr Isabelle Moreau (i.moreau@ucl.ac.uk).
