The Faculty of Arts of Radboud University Nijmegen has more than 600 staff engaged in or supporting education and research in the fields of history, art and literature, linguistics and business communication. It has two research institutes: the Centre for Language Studies (CLS) and the Institute for Historical, Literary and Cultural Studies (HLCS).The faculty is comprised of ten departments that together cater to approximately 2,900 students.As Professor of French Language and Culture (0.8 FTE) you will provide education as part of the Bachelor ’s degree study programme in French Language and Culture, the Master ’s degree study programme in Literature and the Research Master ’s degree study programme in Historical, Literary and Cultural Studies. Your main language of teaching will be French, but you may also be required to teach French Literature and Culture courses in Dutch and English to non-Romance Language students. You will be a member of the department of Romance Languages (French/Spanish), which provides teaching and research in Spanish Language and Culture (1 FTE); French Linguistics (1 FTE) and French Language and Culture (0.8 FTE).The focus of your research will be French literature since 1500 . You should be prepared to establish links with developments in the literature of other language areas and to share your research results with researchers from various faculty disciplines. In this way you will contribute to the research theme “Europe and its worlds” of the research institute for Historical, Literary and Cultural Studies.You will be expected to play an active and leading role in this challenging research environment. An important part of your remit will be to acquire research financed by indirect government and external funding that will contribute to existing and future research themes of the research institute for Historical, Literary and Cultural Studies. You will, of course, also be involved in the supervision of PhD research projects and perform managemen t tasks at the departmental level and, if necessary, at the faculty level.
