Junior Professorship for Romance Literature and Media Studies, (Italian/French or Spanish; 'W1' level according to the German system)

The School of Humanities , University of Mannheim, Germany, invites applications for a Junior Professorship for Romance Literature and Media Studies, (Italian/French or Spanish; 'W1' level according to the German system) starting at the earliest possible date. We are looking for candidates with a doctorate in (or a focus on) Italian Studies and an additional focus on the field of Romance Literature and Media Studies (French or Spanish). They are expected to have expertise in the field of cultural studies and to be able to cooperate transdisciplinarily. Experience with fund raising will be an advantage. Applicants are also expected to represent the subject in research and teaching and to participate in the following study programmes: the School of Humanities' Teacher's Certificates, B.A. programmes, B.A. in Culture and Economy, M.A. in Transformation of Modern Age: Literature and Media and the M.A. in Culture and Business. Furthermore, they should also be interested in redeveloping and advancing university curricula. The requirements for this position are based on art. 51 par. 2 and 3 of the University Law of the State of Baden-Württemberg (LHG). Applicants must provide evidence of a university degree and an outstanding doctorate, pedagogical aptitude and additional scientific achievements that proof their qualification for this junior professorship. If the successful candidate meets the requirements of the public sector employment law, he or she can be given civil servant status on limited appointment for an initial period of three years. According to the regulations of art. 51 par. 7 and 8 of the LHG and upon positive evaluation, this status can be extended by another three years. If he or she is appointed to a professorship for the first time, there might be an initial probation period of three years. At the University of Mannheim, we place special emphasis on the support of our students. Therefore, our professors are expected to be available for them at the university. With a view to further involving the university in the regional environment, applicants are expected to be willing to move to the Rhine Neckar region.
