While invasions are typically associated with military aggression and resistance of opposing forces, there are numerous instances in which people, ideas, memories, or diseases can invade or be invaded. Therefore, invasions may be physical, social, mental, intellectual, biological, digital, temporal, political, or religious. Our open-ended and multidisciplinary conference will explore these different aspects of invasions and the ways in which they manifest themselves within literature, history, art, film, and cultural discourse.
Potential topics could include, but are not limited to:
The changing of physical, spatial, or temporal boundaries
Subversion of established norms (political, moral, social, etc.)
Sustainability of identity; imposed conceptions of identity
Responses to mental or physical diseases
Editing of identity: editing memories and manipulating the past and the present
Cultural and/or ideological invasions
Papers are invited from any area of French and Francophone studies and may be in English or French. Prospective presenters may submit abstracts of approximately 300 words by February 4, 2013. Please include your name, institution, mailing address, and email address in both your email and on your abstract. Please attach your abstract as a Word document and send it to both irina@ku.edu and ahendrickson@ku.edu .
